For years, Bosch Professional batteries have become the preferred power source for many of the world's leading battery-powered strapping tool manufacturers. Brands such as Signode, Orgapack, Zapak, Strapex, Transpak, CHT and many others have relied on the Bosch 18V platform to provide reliable power, long runtimes and global battery availability.
However, a recent change to Bosch's AMPShare battery range is creating an unexpected challenge for some older strapping tools. While the electrical platform remains compatible, the physical battery casing has changed on certain newer battery models, which means they may no longer fit inside tools that were designed around the original Bosch battery housing.
What's Changed with the bosch batteries?
Bosch has continued to develop its AMPShare and ProCORE battery ranges, introducing new battery technologies, improved cooling systems and higher-capacity cells. Some of the latest batteries feature revised external housings and casing dimensions to accommodate these upgrades. While these batteries remain compatible with Bosch chargers and AMPShare tools from an electrical perspective, the physical dimensions are not always identical to earlier battery designs.
For most power tools this is not an issue, as the battery simply slides onto an exposed battery mount. However, many battery-powered strapping tools use a custom moulded battery compartment that partially encloses the battery. This design protects the battery from impact damage but leaves very little room for dimensional changes.

But the battery on the right, while you can Jam it is and it will work, its sorta hard to remove from the tools tight casing.Â

Which Strapping Tools Could Be Affected?
Any strapping tool that was designed around a custom-fitted Bosch battery cavity may potentially experience fitment issues with newer Bosch AMPShare battery models.
Examples include:
- Signode BXT2 strapping tools
- Signode BXT3 strapping tools
- CHT 260 series tools
- All Orgapack battery strapping tools pre the lastest models not using procore
- All Zapak models

All Transpak models pre 2026 Pro core revision.Â
In many cases, the original Bosch batteries supplied with these tools will continue to work perfectly. The issue arises when users purchase newer replacement batteries only to discover that the battery physically will not fit into the tool housing.
The AMPShare Expansion
Bosch's AMPShare platform has become one of the most successful battery alliances in the industrial sector. The system is now used across dozens of professional brands, including packaging equipment manufacturers such as Orgapack and Signode. The goal was to create a universal professional battery platform, reducing the need for multiple battery systems across different tools.
Unfortunately, as battery technology evolves, physical design changes can sometimes create compatibility challenges for equipment that was engineered around older battery dimensions.
What Should Existing Tool Owners Do?
If you own a battery-powered strapping tool that uses Bosch batteries, it is important to verify battery compatibility before purchasing replacements.
Many distributors and online suppliers simply advertise a battery as a "Bosch 18V replacement" without checking whether the physical housing matches your specific tool model. This can result in costly returns, downtime and frustration when the battery arrives but cannot be inserted into the tool.
Before ordering replacement batteries, check:
- The exact Bosch battery part number currently used in your tool.
- Whether the replacement battery uses the original Bosch casing design.
- Whether your tool manufacturer has approved newer AMPShare battery models.
- Whether a retrofit battery cover or adapter is available.
