What is the Roping System / Device
A roping device is an attachment used on pallet wrapping machines to narrow the stretch film into a tight band or “rope.” Instead of applying the full width of film around the pallet, the roping device gathers the film together to create a reinforced strip that acts like a tensioned cord. This roped section of stretch film is used to secure the pallet load more firmly, often at the top or bottom of the pallet, where extra hold-down strength is needed to prevent product movement during transport. By using roping, operators can improve load stability, reduce film usage in non-critical areas, and maintain airflow around the product when full film coverage isn’t necessary
Atlanta Stretch Roping Devices – Manual and Electric Options
Atlanta Stretch offers two styles of roping devices designed to improve pallet stability and wrapping versatility – the manual roping device and the electric roping device. These systems are used to narrow the stretch film into a rope or band, providing additional load security at the top, middle or bottom of the pallet where extra hold-down strength is needed.
The manual roping device is the simplest version. It allows the operator to manually adjust the film and create a rope at specific points in the wrapping cycle. This system is ideal for users who need occasional roping or prefer a straightforward, low-maintenance solution.
From the manual:
The manual strip tighter (1)reduces the width of the film to one string and reinforces the binding of the product, It can also be installed later. Attaching it as per the image below.
The device is comprised of a frame (2) in which the grooved wheel(4) slides, with the help of the lever (3) reducing the width of the stretch film.
For higher volume operations, Atlanta Stretch also offers an electric roping device. This version automates the roping process and can be integrated directly with the machine’s power pre-stretch carriage. Unlike pneumatic systems, the Atlanta electric roping device doesn’t require compressed air, reducing maintenance requirements and simplifying installation.
One of the key advantages of Atlanta Stretch machinery is its modular design. This means a roping device doesn’t have to be installed from the start — it can be fitted later if your production needs change. Whether you begin with a standard pallet wrapper and later decide to add roping, or you’re upgrading an existing unit to handle more demanding loads, the modular build of Atlanta’s systems makes it possible.
The images below are of the double and single roping device.
The Atlanta stretch roping device is made of a frame and chain ring, controlled by a gear motor. The frame has an idle roller the forces the film lower.
Pictures below is the single and double roping devices.
The image below is how the film is loaded through the roping device. The feed is the same as normal with the carage door open, but there is 2 added rollers to feed through with the roping device.
The roping function is particularly useful for improving load containment while maintaining breathability, reducing film use in specific sections of the wrap, and preventing load shift during transport.
With Atlanta Stretch, customers have the flexibility to choose between manual or electric options and the confidence that their wrapping system can evolve as their business grows.
