Custom Green Shrinkwrap

Custom Green Shrinkwrap

This customer came to us looking for stronger shrinkwrap to last outside. So we custom produced this green shrinkwrap to suit his application.

The Green Shrinkwrap Specification

5M X 200UM X 54M (50KG) GREEN OPAQUE 2% UV SHRINKWRAP

Understanding the description

  • 5M Wide. - This shrinkwrap is a sheet for wrapping, its 5m Wide. its wound on itself so it folds out to 5m wide
  • 200um - 200UM Material is a thick material that will shrink down and protect goods well, it will be harder for the gas gun to burn holes through it.
  • 50M - This product is 50m long, and will be placed on their dispenser.
  • GREEN OPAQUE - This customer wanted green for their brand, but then it was improtant that they be unable to see through, sometimes green might be specified as "ting" where you can still see through is, but in this case we specifically opaque so people cannot see through it.
  • UV- it was important for this product to remain shrinkwraped outside for sometime so we specified 2% UV stabilizer which will give it about 2 years outside with its 200um material before it starts to break down.
  • Shrinkwrap - Shrinkwrap needs to be specified, while regular plastic will shrink if heat applied, the shrinkwrap bubble is made in a certain way with some extra additive to promote better shrinking when heat is applied.

The Shrinkwrap Application

This customer does large metal parts that are transported on open trucks and stored outside, unhappy with his previous shrinkwrap, they have come to us to fix the specification of the product for their application.

When doing so we also reviewed their work process, their previous product was made in a tube, which they then cut open, they always cut Open the tube to handle their large products, so we suggested changing to a sheet to improve their workflow process.

What is Shrinkwrap?

Shrinkwrap is a versatile packaging material designed to tightly cover and protect products. Unlike ordinary plastic, shrinkwrap is manufactured with additives that allow it to shrink uniformly when heat is applied, conforming closely to the shape of the item it covers. This creates a secure barrier against dust, moisture, UV exposure, and general wear during transportation or storage. Shrinkwrap is widely used across industries for bundling, palletising, and protecting items during shipping or outdoor storage.

Shrinkwrap should not be confused with Stretchwrap, while the terms are commonly interchanged. Stretchwrap stretches, shrinkwrap shrinks when heat is applied.

What is LDPE?

The shrinkwrap used in this specification is made from LDPE, or Low-Density Polyethylene. LDPE is a flexible, durable, and chemically resistant plastic, making it ideal for shrinkwrap applications. Its elasticity allows it to stretch over irregular surfaces and shrink back tightly without tearing easily. LDPE also responds well to heat, which ensures a smooth and uniform shrink, creating a strong protective barrier around products.

How is Shrinkwrap Used?

In industrial applications, shrinkwrap is applied using heat. One common method is a gas gun, also known as a heat gun. This handheld device emits a controlled stream of hot air, which activates the shrink properties of the wrap. The heat causes the material to contract around the product, forming a tight, secure seal.
