Adjusting the MUL-20 cutter blade for strap thickness

Adjusting the MUL-20 cutter blade for strap thickness

The MUL20 is A somewhat unique sealless steel strapping tool on the market, in that you can adjust the strap depth precisely by changing the depth the sealling die goes. this is changed by rotating the cam disk.

The advantages of this over other sealless tools is:

  • adjust perfectly for your strapping. the blade cuts through the top strap without damage the bottom strap
  • Reduce the need for cutter blade replacement, adjust the depth down as the blade dulls.
  • Reduce service requirements, as the bearings wear down and break in the cutting depth can be adjusted down rather the coming back into the shop.

Some tools have you replacing shim plates to adjust cutting depth and strap thickness. but there's no pulling the entire tool apart with the MUL20 to adjust the cutting depth.

1.2 ADJUSTING THE MUL-20 FOR STRAP THICKNESS The MUL-20 can be used with regular duty strapping from .015”(.38mm) to .027”(.68mm) thick; and high tensile strapping up to .025”(.64mm) thick.

The tool can be easily adjusted for strap thickness by loosening Screw 53 and rotating the Adjustment Plate 11 on the side of the tool.

Rotating the Adjustment Plate 11 will change the depth of the cutter. The Adjustment Plate 11 serves as a wrench to turn a hex-end shaft running through the tool. The opposite end of the shaft is round and has a line scribed on it, as shown below.

When the line points straight up, the cutter is at its shallowest position; when the line points straight down the cutter is deepest. The usual setting is about half way between these extremes.
