In this section we will go through a few prestart requirements before using the pallet wrapping machine.

  • This SOP does not cover machine control panel or its programs, it is expected that the programs have been set-up already.
  • Always have a clear work zone, remove any obstacles that may cause injury or damage to goods and equipment.
  • Make sure there is adequate space around the pallet wrapping work zone. See Fig 1.
  • Make sure there is adequate space above the pallet machine see Fig 2, this is so when the carriage goes to full height, it won’t hit any objects above and get jammed or cause damage to the carriage.
  • Make sure the power cord is not damaged in anyway, if damaged please isolate machine and disconnect from power and call your Team Leader.
  • Ensure the pallet does not exceed the weight of the manufacture’s specifications. Failing to do so will result in damage to equipment.

Prestart check list continued…

  • Always stay near the control panel when in operation.
  • Never walk on the turntable.
  • Never walk on the inspection cover.

General Safety

  • Always keep clear of moving parts, under no circumstances are you to walk, stand on the turntable.
  • Never lean over the car when it’s in operation, serious injury may result.
  • Never try and tear the stretch film with bare hands, it may cause injury to your hand/s, resulting in first aid.
  • Always use proper lifting techniques when putting on new stretch film onto the carriage.
  • Ensure the electrical cable is not compromised in anyway.
  • Visual check the safety plastic bumper on the robotic, make sure it is in good condition.
  • Always make sure you have adequate spacing with the robotic, as a guide walk the robotic around the pallet with the wheel on the pallet.
  • Always check charge on robotic, never let the batteries discharge completely. It may result in a purchase of new batteries.
  • Never leave the DC batteries on constant charge, not recommended, and may potentially cause fire.
  • Always remove the power cable in a safe manner from the robot, this is so that it won’t arc and cause electronic damage to the robot.

Pallet Safety

  1. Ensure the pallet does not exceed 1200mm Width by 1200mm length.
  2. With extended pallets and the correct pallet wrapper machine, always make sure the pallet is central on the turntable, this will evenly distribute the weight.
  3. Ensure pallets are in good order, to avoid damage to goods and equipment and possible injury to staff.

Carriage Safety

This we will list the guidelines for a safe operation.

  • Never touch the stretch film whist it is operation.
  • Never try and break the stretch film whilst it is still operation.
  • Should the stretch film get caught around the rollers, turn power off and remove the stretch film stuck around the rollers.
  • Never kick the stretch film for any reason, this will cause damage to the equipment.
  • Never pull sudden with a jerk on the stretch film with 1PRS and PRS carriages, let the machine do its job.
  • Always take care when feeding thru the stretch film, follow the guide on the carriage if you have forgotten on how to feed it through.
  • When putting stretch film roll onto the carriage never ever let it drop down, it will cause damage to rollers on the mounting bracket.
